Action. Behavior. Results.

The late John Wooden, an extraordinary leader and basketball coach, had a powerful leadership statement:

“Don’t tell me what you’re going to do. Show me what you will do.”

This leadership philosophy and expectation is as relevant for organizations, teams, colleagues, friends, and family as it is for individual leaders like you and me.

“Don’t tell me what you’re going to do. Show me what you will do.”

The most successful leaders ingrain and permeate this powerful philosophy and expectation into their personal, professional and organizational lives and cultures. They say it, they repeat it, they model it, and they live it. The most successful leaders also teach and expect those whom they lead to say it, repeat it, model it, and live it.

You are a leader. Do you say it, repeat it, model it and live it? Do you teach and expect those whom you lead to say it, repeat it, model it, live it and teach it?

Today—and every day—would be a great day to say it, repeat it, model it, live it and teach it.

“Don’t tell me what you’re going to do. Show me what you will do.”
