Saint Vincent’s Health Services appoints director of purchasing
Berwyn Kelley was appointed director of materials management at Saint Vincent’s Health Services (Bridgeport, Conn.) in April 2008. Kelley previously was central sterile supply and operating room materials manager. Kelley also worked in the same capacity within the Yale New Haven Health System.

Rapides opens $50 million patient tower
Alexandria, La.-based Rapides Regional Medical Center completed a two-year, $50 million expansion with the opening of its new four-story South Tower on May 15, 2008. The 138,000-square-foot building includes 72 critical care beds, a 26-bed ICU and a new ER with 25 treatment rooms. The expansion created between 75 to 100 new jobs.

Banner Health plans 55-bed simulation center
Phoenix, Ariz.-based Banner Health plans to open a simulation center at the closed Banner Mesa Medical Center. The center will feature 55 beds, two operating rooms and a full emergency department. The intent of the simulation center is to duplicate the experience of working in a hospital for the first time. Banner Mesa Medical Center closed in September 2007 when Banner Gateway Medical Center (Gilbert, Ariz.) opened.

Freedom Medical partners with Healthcare Links
Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.-based Healthcare Links (HCL) will represent Freedom Medical, Inc. (Exton, Pa.) as its national accounts advisor. Freedom Medical is a supplier of rental medical equipment and therapeutic support surfaces. Their aim is to assist hospitals in extracting cost from a healthcare system that continues to reduce reimbursement. Tanner Medical seeks CON to expand cancer services
Carrollton, Ga.-based Tanner Medical Center wants to expand radiation therapy services at the Roy Richards Sr Cancer Center located at 165 Clinic Avenue. The cost of the project is estimated at $5.7 million.
