Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s (Jacksonville, FL) five year, $60 million expansion and renovation projects is almost completed. Changes include the addition of 62,000 sq ft of space, making it the fourth largest hospital in the Navy. The trend in the military is to expand base hospitals so they can take on the services previously only available at facilities like Walter Reed Army Medical Center (Washington, DC) and National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda, MD). The Army recently closed Walter Reed and merged it with the naval facility in Bethesda. The new entity is called Walter Reed National Medical Center (Bethesda, MD).
