Afghans who assisted US military are building a new life at Cardinal/Detecto

August 29, 2022 – Mohammad “Jawid” Farahmand and Sayed Susavi are among the over 75,000 Afghan refugees who came to the US after the Taliban takeover last year. After fleeing Afghanistan, they are now building a new life in Southern Missouri working for Cardinal/Detecto Scale.

““I worked as a target analyst, helping the Americans with captured Taliban enemies,” says Jawid. Sayed also worked with the US military, spending most of his time with Special Forces.

As it became clear that American troops were going to withdraw from the country, both men knew that they had to get their families out as well. “We could not live there,” says Jawid. “We would have been arrested and killed. 100 percent. And they would have also killed our family due to the Taliban’s different ideology.”

While life in Missouri brings a new set of challenges (i.e. language barrier, cultural differences), Jawid is hoping that as they both continue to grow develop their skill with the English language, their careers at Cardinal/Detecto Scale will bring “improved opportunities as he works to build a life for his family here in America.”

Chad Perry, their production supervisor said, ““They show up every day, they work hard, and they never complain. Right now they are building step-on cans, but the sky is the limit for these guys. We are excited to have them on board.”
