Allina Health suspends hospital ER, urgent care as nurses strike

October 18, 2021 – Allina Health (Minneapolis, MN) has temporarily suspended emergency and urgent care services at its Abbott Northwestern WestHealth (Plymouth, MN) location as 50 nurses who are part of the Minnesota Nurses Association nurses go on strike.

The services have been suspended until Wednesday morning. Allina said no other services on the WestHealth campus have been affected.

The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA), which represents the nurses at Abbott Northwestern WestHealth’s emergency department and urgent care facilities, said its members have been in negotiations since May.

According to the MNA, nurses have been negotiating a new contract for months. The main sticking point right now is with holiday pay for summer holidays — nurses are pushing for time-and-a-half pay when they work a holiday shift.
