Carl Meyer to play 114 holes to raise money for military families this Independence Day

Golf enthusiast and Hire Heroes USA Board Member Carl Meyer has now raised more than $1 million for veterans and military spouses

July 2, 2021 – At sunrise on July 4, golf enthusiast and Hire Heroes USA Board Member Carl Meyer will begin his 14th marathon round of golf to raise funds to benefit military families. This year, Meyer will attempt to play 114 holes to mark the 14th year of fundraising for Hire Heroes USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment.

In April, Meyer recorded a milestone. He became the first individual to raise more than  $1 million for Hire Heroes USA, marking an outstanding milestone in his efforts to support veterans and military spouses.

“Carl Meyer and Hire Heroes USA share the same mission. There is no other way to say it. Passing the one million dollar mark is an extraordinary milestone for so many reasons,” said Hire Heroes USA CEO Andew Sandoe, “The veterans benefit, their families benefit, and their employers benefit as well. Veterans for many years to come may never know Carl’s name – but they will lead better lives because Carl Meyer was supporting them.”

Since he started this tradition in 2007, Meyer’s advocacy and fundraising efforts have empowered at least 600 veterans and military spouses to find meaningful employment. From a golf perspective, Meyer’s commitment is equally impressive. To date, Meyer has fit more than 85 18-hole rounds of golf into those 13 Independence Days. To put it another way, Meyer has golfed approximately 554,344 yards (nearly 105 miles), which is roughly 12 more miles than the distance from Milwaukee to Chicago.

Meyer will tee off around 5 a.m. on July 4th at the Chenequa Country Club in Chenequa, Wis. and will golf all 114 holes (weather permitting). As of Wednesday, Carl has received pledges for at least $100,000 for this year’s event and he is hoping to meet his goal of $150,000 in 2021. Your viewers or readers can support his cause here.
