Cleveland unable to address COVID-19 coronavirus case numbers from Sunday or Monday due to surge in cases

November 17, 2020  –  The city of Cleveland was unable update its COVID-19 data for new cases within the city on Sunday or on Monday, citing an unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases over the last two days.

Cleveland reported a total of 139 new cases were confirmed on Saturday. That raised the total number of new cases confirmed in the city to 7,976 since March.

Across the state, the number of newly reported coronavirus cases increased on Monday by 7,268 from the previous day, according to the Ohio Department of Health, to a total of 305,364.

Twenty new deaths were reported, bringing the total death toll to 5,742.

Johns Hopkins University of Medicine reported that as of Monday evening its tally showed 11,190,611 people had become infected with the coronavirus. By its tally, deaths in the United States totaled 247,116.
