September 11, 2026- Intermountain Health has opened a new Flight & Ambulance Services base at Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital in Utah, bringing flight and ambulance crews, equipment, maintenance and support spaces together near the hospital’s helipad and Emergency Department.
The centralized facility is designed to reduce response times for patients requiring emergency transport. Intermountain expects crews to reach patients approximately five to 10 minutes sooner because of quicker access to aircraft, equipment and supplies.
“Even a few minutes can change an outcome,” said Rex Jacobsen, operations manager for Intermountain Health Flight & Ambulance Services in southern Utah. “This setup helps us get to patients and get them the care they need faster.”
Previously, flight and ambulance teams operated from multiple locations across the hospital campus, with supplies distributed among different spaces. The new base consolidates those operations, allowing pilots, mechanics and clinical teams to work from a shared location.
The base supports 911 responses and interfacility transfers originating within approximately 150 miles of St. George. Clinical teams provide care for adult, pediatric, neonatal and high-risk obstetric patients.
In addition to operational areas, the facility includes a shared team area, day room and kitchen for caregivers between calls. Its proximity to the Emergency Department is also intended to improve communication and continuity of care among transport and hospital teams.
