Tennessee hospital suspends elective procedures amid COVID-19 surge

October 26, 2020 – Late last week, Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) (Columbia, TN) announced it will temporarily suspend elective procedures requiring an overnight stay for a two-week period beginning October 26.

The action comes as a response to the hospital setting a record high of 50 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 last week.

“During the past few days, our region has experienced an increase in COVID-19 cases. We have consistently seen COVID-19 numbers spike following holidays and the latest climb follows recent fall breaks in our region,” said Alan Watson, CEO of Maury Regional Health.

As of last Thursday, MRMC was treating 50 COVID-19 inpatients, 20 of whom were in the medical center’s 26-bed ICU.

At the close of the two-week period, medical center leadership will re-evaluate based on hospital utilization and staffing.
