Wellpath becomes first healthcare company awarded full NCQA Accreditation for correctional healthcare programs

August 10, 2022 – Wellpath, the nation’s leader in providing compassionate medical and behavioral healthcare to vulnerable patients in challenging clinical environments, becomes the first healthcare company awarded full Accreditation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for Population Health Program Management in correctional settings. The NCQA Population Health Program Accreditation evaluates organizations’ programs against industry best practices for population health management. Wellpath has received full NCQA Population Health Program Accreditation for the following programs: Diabetes, Hepatitis C, Hypertension, HIV and Serious Mental Illness in Female Patients. These programs have received accreditation for three years, the maximum allowable length. Wellpath joins leading healthcare organizations like Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic in achieving NCQA accreditation.

“Quality patient care is our top priority, and this rigorous outside evaluation and validation by the NCQA helps ensure that our patients receive the best person-centered care,” said Jorge Dominicis, Wellpath’s Chief Executive Officer. “We continue to be very proud of our talented, mission-driven professionals who care for our fragile patient population in very unique environments, and who are dedicated to this high level of service.”

“These programs address several of the most common diseases affecting justice-involved patients, as well as the community at large. Wellpath has aligned our standards with industry-leading organizations to help ensure high levels of care and to foster an environment of innovation and continuous improvement,” added Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Thomas Pangburn.

The National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Population Health Program Accreditation standards are developed with input from health plans, population health management industry leaders and organizations, an expert panel and standing committees. Standards are purposely set high to encourage organizations to continuously enhance their quality and are intended to help organizations achieve the highest level of performance possible and create an environment of continuous improvement.

“The Population Health Management programs moves us in greater alignment with the increased focus on person-centered population health management,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, President, NCQA. “Not only does it add value to existing quality improvement efforts; it also demonstrates an organization’s highest level of commitment to improving the quality of care that meets people’s needs.”

Wellpath plans to apply for NCQA Population Health Program Accreditation for additional disease states in the coming months, consistent with the Company’s mission to “Always Do the Right Thing”.
