October 5, 2023- Ascension published its FY23 Environmental Impact and Sustainability Annual Report in alignment with the Feast of St. Francis on October 4. The report notes opportunities to improve access to, and validate, greenhouse gas emissions and waste data to track progress against commitments to reduce Ascension’s carbon footprint and engage associates across Ascension to care for Creation.
In 2021, Ascension made a public commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions and zero waste across all sites of care by 2040. In FY23, for the first time, Ascension publicly reported baseline Scope 1 and 2 emissions as part of its commitment to the Race to Zero. Ascension advanced its pledge to reduce carbon emissions with its first renewable energy purchases.
