HAIs decline significantly in acute care hospitals, CDC says

December 1, 2023- According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), progress is being made toward decreasing healthcare-associated infections in acute care hospitals. Acute Care Hospitals between 2021 and 2022 saw decreases in central line associated bloodstream infections (down 9%), ventilator associated events (down 19%), Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) (down 12%), and more.

The report, however, showed little progress in reducing HAIs in other healthcare settings. The 2022 HAI Progress Report identified areas of improvement report, addressed gaps, and showed that hospitals must reinforce infection prevention and control practices.
