Netflix documentary The Bleeding Edge takes on device companies and the FDA

I learned more about the FDA and device marketing in this two hour documentary than I have in the last 20 years working in healthcare.

It was really uncomfortable watching this show explore the intentions of many well-known device companies like:
• Bayer
• Depuy Synthesis (J&J)
• daVinci (Intuitive Surgical)

The challenges raised in the documentary very well may have forced Bayer to take its permanent non-surgical sterilization device Essure off the market at the end of 2018.

This is a must watch documentary for all of those in the device industry.  Let us know what you think about it in the comments below.

I have so many great friends that have spent their entire career with Device companies. I would be interested in hearing their thoughts of the documentary? Thoughts on the FDA?

  2. I watched this and thought it was very one sided. I have been around medical device companies for most of my career. If we only show negative aspects, we won’t see many people helped by the devices. I am a little concerned about the way some approvals are predicated based upon devices that may have been recalled. That needs to stop
