Nielsen: The Heart of a Leader is a Teacher

If you want to improve your leadership skills and your leadership impact… improve your teaching skills and your teaching impact!

Excellent leaders are excellent teachers.

The best leaders are superb, inspirational teachers.

Max Anderson, the founder of Simple Truths wrote about two teachers who profoundly impacted his life.  In a recent book entitled Heart of a Teacher, Anderson wrote:

“There were two teachers who I can say, with certainty, helped to made me who I am today.

The first was Ms. Bridges.  She was amazing!  She made learning so much fun and made all of us feel as though we could do anything we wanted to do.  The positive seeds she planted in my head are still growing!

Then there was Fred Culp.  He taught me that a sense of humor, especially laughing at yourself, can be one of life’s greatest blessings.  He also, more than any teacher I ever had, made learning so much fun.”

If you are a leader, you are a teacher.  If you are not a teacher, you are not a leader!

Do you assure that learning is fun for your direct reports, your team and for those within your healthcare organization?  Do you do whatever it takes to make sure your direct reports, your team and those within your organization feel as though they can do anything… if they want to?

Are you teaching the critical importance of a sense of humor… particularly laughing at yourself?  A healthy sense of humor really is “one of life’s greatest blessings.”

To improve your leadership skills and your leadership impact, improve your teaching skills and your teaching impact.  The best leaders are superb, inspirational teachers!
