Cleveland Clinic program bridges preventative care gaps

January 23, 2024- Cleveland Clinic hosted a women’s health challenge at the Langston Hughes Community Health and Education Center in early January, which focused on raising awareness about preventable diseases disproportionately affecting African American women.

Participants were offered free health education and screenings for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), breast cancer, cervical cancer, HIV/AIDS, human papillomavirus (HPV) and multiple myeloma. The community wellness initiative continues to provide an important opportunity to bridge the gap to preventative care.

Last year, 108 attendees received a health screening during the women’s health challenge. Among them, 30% exhibited abnormal test results and were connected to follow-up care.

Cleveland Clinic Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center has become a gathering place for health and wellbeing in the Fairfax neighborhood. The Center focuses on free health education along with primary care services, prevention and wellness programs to help improve community health.
